About Mrs Butler

This is currently my 19th year teaching Kindergarten and I have been at Highcroft since it opened in 2004. I am a National Board Certified Teacher and have a Master's degree in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Reading education.  I am also Wake County's Kindergarten science representative and a Mentor for new teachers. I attended Campbell University where I received degrees in Elementary Education, Biology, and Chemistry. As this may tell you, I really enjoy science and tend to include many discovery oriented activities in my lessons. I currently live in Fuquay- Varina with my husband Brendan, son Colin, daughter Ciara, one cat, and three dogs, Murphy, Gracie, and Finnegan.

I believe it is my job to meet the needs of every student in my classroom. This includes not only their academic needs, but also any social or emotional needs they may have as well. I tend to set high expectations for my students and have found students will grow to meet these expectations. I also think learning in Kindergarten should be fun. We only get to be kids once, and children should enjoy this time while they can. Therefore, much of the learning done in our classroom is through hands on experiences. Kindergarten is also a year where the students learn to interact socially. Therefore, our classroom environment provides many opportunities for the students to work with their peers. I think Kindergarten is the best year to be in school, and my favorite part of teaching it is seeing the amazing amount of growth the students make in just this one year!
